Loutraki Park

In Progress.

Commissioned by the Municipality of Loutraki, Greece to re-design an existing park.

In search for a starting point for a proposal. Asking what could be an architecture for a place with

this history. It wasn’t always a casino town close to Athens, we know that.

We start from the ground.

The knowledge coming from there:

An encounter in a book: a geological section from 18923.

The Geraneia mountains drawn as a figure composed of different types of rocks. We take this

section, flip it and project it onto the plan. It becomes a new ground.

An element that organizes the existing park. We retain all trees that begin to puncture this figure. Its

segments once connotating geological consistencies in drawing, now generate different zones within

the park.

Forgotten there, in a corner of the park is the mineral spring. Two types of water come out: healing

and drinking. You can consume both but the healing type is heavier. Notice those who come with

bottles filling them up, they know. We make this spring a focal point.

We catalog the plants in Geraneia and propose a small garden around the spring.
